چکیده

Fluorine is the 13 most abundant naturally occurring element in the Earth’s crust and is the lightest member of the halogens. It is the most electronegative and reactive of all the elements and as a result, elemental fluorine does not occur in nature but found as a fluoride mineral complexes. Exposure to fluoride beyond the recommended level for longer duration causes fluorosis. Several physical and chemical defluoridation methods have been designed to treat high fluoride concentration in ground water. There is need to develop such methods for defluoridation which would be cost effective and biodegradable.

Defluoridation of contaminated drinking water using neem charcoal adsorbent: Kinetics and equilibrium studies

Drinking water is often the main source of fluoride intake by humans, especially in areas where their concentrations in groundwater and/or surface water is high. Endemic fluorosis is present in at least 20 states of India, affecting more than 65 million people including 6 million children. Fluoride ion (F) concentrations in India’s groundwater vary widely, ranging from 0.01 mg/L to 48 mg/L. Def...

Fluoride removal from water by adsorption on acid activated kaolinite clay

When drinking water contains excess fluoride it causes health hazards to human beings. In the present investigation the removal of fluoride has been attempted using acid activated kaolinite clay obtained from local traditional potter of Majuli river island, Assam. The clay was characterized by chemical analysis, IR, XRD data and thermal analysis. The clay was activated with conc. H2SO4. The flu...

Defluoridation Of Water by Moringa Oleifera- A Natural Adsorbent

The water available for daily consumption may be contaminated by natural sources or by industrial effluents. One such a contaminant is fluoride. Exposure to fluoride in drinking water has a number of adverse effects on human health. One of the naturally available alternatives for defluoridation of water is Moringa Oleifera. Using colourimetric method, tests were conducted to get optimal values ...

Comparative Study of Defluoridation from Water using Waste Materials as Adsorbents – A Review

Fluoride is one of the most abundant constituents occurring in the groundwater in many parts of the world, posing a potential threat to human health. The permissible limit of fluoride concentration in drinking water is 1.5mg/L according to WHO guidelines. In India, 25 million people in 19 states and union territories have already been affected and another 66 million are at risk, including 6 mil...

Assessment of Fluoride Removal from Drinking Water by Calcium Phosphate Systems

Static defluoridation of high fluoride (10-12 ppm) water by sixteen different combinations of tricalcium phosphate (TCP), bone char (BC), hydroxyapatite (HAP), and related substances has been investigated. Defluoridation of 100 mL of the water by 300 mg of relatively insoluble phosphates is only 60-70 percent complete. Defluoridation is 30 percent more efficient, however, when a more soluble ph...
